The story

The grid goes dark with Eli Cooper's father on a ventilator in a St. Marys hospital. At home, his old black lab, Ted, is fighting the same cancer. Then a super EMP kills everything, and every clock in Eli's life starts running faster.
St. Marys won't stay a town for long. A man with his own plans for it is building an army inside the city. Sandra, the vet keeping Ted alive, ends up on the wrong side of his new order, and Eli is the only one in a position to get her out.
Eli has his family's land, his father's rifle, and everything the old man taught him. Out here, it might be enough to survive the winter. It won't be enough to stay out of the war.
